A Journey to Monterey & Carmel
No trip to California would be complete without exploring arguably the best section of Highway #1 between San Francisco and Monterey. Referred to in the tour industry as the Monterey/Carmel tour, the sights on this tour represent the history of the State of California. First under the Spanish, then the Mexican Republic, then when California became a State. This is where the first constitutional Convention was held and where the California constitution originated.
The entire route to Monterey is coastal within full view of the Pacific Ocean. Traveling through former whaling station towns, great fields of artichokes stretching to the shore, the oldest lighthouse on the West Coast, charming fishing villages, state-protected habitat photo shoots, we reach Monterey's Cannery Row (of Steinbeck fame) just in time for lunch. There are great seafood restaurants stilted over the Bay. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one-of-a-kind — no expense was spared by David Packard, of HP fame, whose seed money made it possible (convinced by his family, Julie Packard, Executive Director). (Additional fee required for entrance to Aquarium.)
Our tour continues through magnificent valleys of strawberries on to the most popular golf destination in the world, Pebble Beach. We will stop at the lodge and walk for photo shoots where all the world's greatest golfers have played for almost 100 years.
We will have photo shoots at Padre Serra's Mission in Carmel and stop at downtown Carmel for shopping, sightseeing and browsing the most legendary of the historic towns in California, most often referred to as the Bethlehem of Modern urban California. Returning to San Francisco via Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley), Gilroy, San Jose, and back to your Hotel.
